Lil Nas X’s “Satan Shoes” With Human Blood Get Ringing Endorsement From “Church Of Satan”

The New York-headquartered Church of Satan has endorsed rapper Lil Nas X’s controversial but wildly popular “Satan Shoes.”

The controversial shoes were produced by New-York based company MSCHF in collaboration with the “Old Town Road” rapper. MSCHF made only 666 pairs of the limited-edition sneaker which sold out within minutes of its release on Monday. This was despite the sneaker’s hefty price tag of US$1,018 per pair.

The controversial sneakers are modified Nike Air Max 97s which feature, an inverted cross, bronze pentagram pendant, “one drop of human blood” in the sole, and reference to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse about Satan’s fall from heaven. The back of one shoe says “MSCHF” and the other says “Lil Nas X.”

Following a lawsuit filed by Nike against MSCHF for copyright infringement, the Church of Satan has come out in full support of the controversial shoe.

According to David Harris, the magister for the Church of Satan the sneakers embrace the essence of Satanism. Harris said that Satanists are endorsing the way Lil Nas X is turning against religion to market his customized Nike Air Max 97 shoes.

The Church of Satan was established in 1966 and its headquarters are located in Poughkeepsie, New York. According to the church, it does not believe in the Devil, neither a Christian nor Islamic notion of Satan.

The Church views Satan as a positive archetype who represents pride, individualism, and enlightenment, and as a symbol of defiance against the Abrahamic faiths which they criticize for the apparent suppression of humanity’s natural instincts. The Church of Satan said that Lil Nas X’s sneakers follow the values favoured by the Church of Satan of being your true self, living life to the fullest and personal achievement.

The release of the Satan Shoes coincides with the 21-year-old Grammy-winning rapper’s latest single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

Between the shoes and the “breathtaking” music video for “Montero,” Harris says LNX is clearly extending a middle finger to folks who told him he’d burn in hell for his sexuality. He added that the Church of Satan applauds Lil Nas X for living life on his own terms and being his honest self.
