HARARE-Farmhut and the Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) are excited to inform farmers and the general public that they have successfully formed a partnership. This comes at a time when there is a need for fresh solutions for smallholder farmers to access information on the go.
Farmhut is an AI-powered marketplace connecting farmers to markets that pay fair prices for their produce. It enables farmers to grow their business fast, throughout the year and ensures consumers get fresh, local, and sustainably grown food from small producers in their local area.
This partnership directly reflects on the vision ZFU has for the ordinary farmer which is to promote and advance farmers’ interests and welfare through representation, networking, information dissemination, capacity building, and the formation of commercially viable enterprises.
ZFU is the largest farmers’ interest organization in Zimbabwe and it represents over a million farming households. The Union draws its membership from the following sub-sectors; communal, resettlement, small-scale commercial, peri-urban plot holders, emergent and large-scale commercial farmers.
Farmers will now be able to tap into Farmhut’s value offering and services at discounted fees to reduce the marginalization gap and ensure that they reach sustainable production.
ZFU Commodities Executive, Simbarashe Muchena said; “ZFU is happy to be in the partnership with Farmhut which is aimed at bridging the digital gap and addressing pertinent issues like market linkages, real-time information on markets and technical aspects, and most importantly predictive analytics on the markets which is now very important”
Farmhut and ZFU have ensured that they know this partnership will help the farming industry in Zimbabwe grow, change and also help farmers to adopt the new technologies in farming that is probably the new future.
The Farmhut Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Ryan Katayi had this to say, “It is our prerogative and mission to provide the best information services and technology that reach the many remote farmers. This partnership not only helps us realize that but accelerates the uptake of such technology”
ZFU and Farmhut teams share the same sentiments and are really excited at the new journey ahead. Collaboration for the future.
