It has been a long learning curve for Gemma Griffiths as an independent artist. She has tried by all means to finance and manage her career on her own until she hit stardom in 2019 with MuGarden by Zimdancehall pioneer, Wallace Chirumiko (Winky D).
“I have been working for a number of years as an independent artist. The journey has been a huge learning curve and I am grateful to have had the support network around me, including my creative Director Marc Neilson and Charlie Kay, my producer and close music confidante.” she noted.
We could say she gained mainstream credit in 2019 but she already had the attention back in 2018 after peroming a Musarova Bigman cover on her first EP called My City. The legendary Winky D was amazed with her work and chose to leverage her passion and channel it to MuGarden.
From then onwards, Gemma Griffiths was now on everybody’s lips. With a career that was much based in South Africa, Gemma Griffiths has performed at a number of shows and shared the stage with creatives like Sho Majozi.
Recently, after her drop for Easy Remix featuring Grammy Award Winner, Chimano from Sauti Sol, she took time to announce her new partnership with Africa Creative Agency. It must have been very hard to keep the good news before the drop of Easy Remix
Chimano adores Gemma Griffiths professionalism. The focus she has is more than the passion itself. The remix was not planned. Though it was rushed, it came out perfect.
“It’s an amazing song and shooting the video with her was so good and seeing how she organised everything together in such a short space of time was so wonderful,” Chimano remarked.
The type of energy she posess may be the reason why Africa Creative Agency grew goosebumps towards her creative process. The Chief Operating Officer, Yvette Gayle Partner, expressed her sentiments in a statement,
“We have an endless passion for music and for voices, for discovery, for people and for life and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome one of Zimbabwe’s unique voices to the ACA family,”
“She has a huge heart and her core values fit perfectly with the DNA of our business. We’ve been blown away by the passion she shares for her country, as well as an incredible work ethic and dedication to her artistry. We are truly excited to play our part in the next phase of her musical journey.” she added.
The African Creative Agency is a talent searching hub that offers opportunities to potential talents and voices from Africa. They help in nurturing, mentoring, career guidance and lift performers from roots to international exposure, following global best practices and experiences. It is headed by cofounder and CEO, Colin Gayle.
The Agency nurtures artists such as, Nasty C, Diamond Platinumz, Tellaman, Vanessa Mdee, Pearl Thusi, Kim Jayde and Frya. Gemma Griffiths shares her sentiments and is happy to be part of them.
“They already feel like home to me, and to join a brilliant family of artists, writers and producers still feels like a dream.” said Gemma Griffiths.
She spends most of her time it in Cape Town, South Africa. More so, she took time to pay respects to her mentor, Taponeswa Mavunga, Director Marc Nelson and producer Charlie Kay. They have played a major role in building her brand.
“I am extremely grateful to my long time mentor and friend, Taponeswa Mavunga for guiding my steps until now and to my amazing fans. I am excited that my musical family has expanded in such a HUGE way. I look forward to making Zimbabwe really proud.” she continued
The Afro Pop singer promises to deliver more for her country and lift the flag of Zimbabwe all over the world. The nation sends its congratulations and wishes her the best of luck.
