A wedding ceremony was cut short after a marriage officer, wedding couple, and four service providers were arrested on Saturday for violating Level 4 national lockdown regulations.
Pastor Brian Macala, 31, of ZAOGA Churu Farm Assembly was busted whilst in the midst of officiating the wedding of Claris Ngwenya, 23, and Onward Chamboko, 42.
The wedding couple and marriage officer were arrested together with the cameramen Blessing Chinhengo, disc jockey Ishamael Karivo, Raston Kadambure, and Wayne Madya.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the arrest to H-Metro saying;
“Seven people were on Saturday arrested for violating Covid-19 regulations by conducting a wedding ceremony during Level 4 national lockdown.”
The seven people were apparently arrested after the police received a tip-off about the wedding from members of the public.
They were all taken to Glen View police station where they were detained and later released.
Inspector Mwanza urged members of the public to adhere to Covid-19 national lockdown measures that have been put in place by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Under Level 4 lockdown the government banned weddings, church gatherings, and musical shows.
Conducting a wedding during Level 4 national lockdown is considered a violation of section 5(2) of the Statutory Instrument Number 189/21 level4 Zimbabwe national Lockdown (gathering in lockdown without exemption).
This is not the first time a wedding couple has been arrested for violating Covid-19 regulations.
Earlier this year, a newlywed couple from Rwanda was forced to spend their first night in an open stadium as punishment for breaking Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
The couple was arrested together with their guests and taken to an empty stadium where they were forced to observe social distancing.
